AURAxDR is a Brooklyn-born artist whose work explores unconventional materials such as cardboard, found objects, and newsprint.
His early experiences working within his family’s woodworking business first introduced him to the process of creating with natural materials and his hands. The satisfaction of seeing something take shape from basic, raw materials inspired him to explore other mediums and forms of artistic expression.
In addition to visual art, AURAxDR has been a professional drummer for more than 30 years. Music remains an integral part of his creative practice, and he believes each art form has an interplay with the other. Song lyrics frequently find their way into his work, creating another layer of meaning and connection.
The subjects of his work often possess a sense of familiarity while maintaining an underlying anonymity. Rather than focusing solely on individual identity, the figures and imagery invite viewers to form their own connections, memories, and interpretations.
AURAxDR works with a wide range of materials and techniques, often incorporating ten or more different mediums into a single piece. This layered approach allows him to explore texture, color, mood, balance, and symbolism. The resulting works are richly constructed compositions in which seemingly disparate elements come together harmoniously, creating pieces filled with layers, texture, symbolism, and visual depth.
